It is difficult for us to judge whether a person gains status by migrating from politics to journalism. Both professions have their detractors.

Still, it is worth mentioning that Brian Sobel, the former Petaluma City Council member, wrote a piece that was published Saturday in the Wall Street Journal. A former member of the Golden Gate Bridge District Board of Directors, Sobel wrote about the history of the building of the bridge – “Spanning the Impossible.” On May 27, the bridge will celebrate the 70th anniversary of its opening.

Sobel seems to wear many hats these days. In Democratic Sonoma County, he is often asked to explain what Republicans are thinking. He is a political consultant, analyst, author of a book of military history and now a writer for newspapers. Others will have to decide whether he should tell his friends.
