F. Scott Fitzgerald said there are no second acts in American lives. But there are plenty in sports, and there are at least a couple of people seeking political comebacks in the vicinity this spring.

To the south, Kerry Mazzoni, who represented southern Sonoma County in the state Assembly and later served as education secretary for Gov. Gray Davis, announced Monday that she’ll run for the Marin County Board of Supervisors. She’s challenging incumbent Susan Adams.

To the north, ex-Rep. Dan Hamburg is busy campaigning for a seat on the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors, where he kicked off his political career two decades ago. Hamburg is running for the seat now held by Dave Colfax, who hasn’t said whether he’ll seek a second term.

And there’s Lee Pierce, an ex-Santa Rosa councilman who is running in the Democratic primary in the 7th Assembly District.

The filing deadline is Friday, with a five-day extension if an incumbent doesn’t seek re-election.
