If  turnout is low in today’s election, don’t blame the Giants.
But you know some candidate somewhere will – particularly if he or she loses a close race.
Normally, on Election Day, from the moment you open your newspaper in the morning, you’re flooded with reminders of what’s on the ballot – and to go vote. It usually dominates the discussions on radio, TV and the Internet.
But not today, not in Northern California. Today, the only race people are talking about is the one the Giants have already won – for the first time since the Eisenhower administration.
Look at the web sites of Bay Area newspapers. Some offer little hint of politics. (Check out sfgate.com. You have to scroll down a way to find out that there’s an election doing on. But who can blame them?)
Will it distract some people from voting? Maybe. But remember in Sonoma County, those who voted by mail in the June primary outnumbered those who went to the polls by 2-1. It’s estimated that 55 percent of the votes cast across the state today will be by mail, and most of those have already been sent in.
Still, a number of local and state races will be determined by those who take the time to show up at the polls today to vote or drop off their mail-in ballots.
We will have years to talk about the Giants. But you only have until 8 p.m. to vote. Don’t miss out.
