It hasn’t received much attention, but Rep. Lynn Woolsey is scheduled to square off tonight at Santa Rosa City Hall against her Republican opponent Jim Judd. The forum, sponsored by the League of Women Voters, will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Santa Rosa City Council Chambers at City Hall. This is the only debate scheduled so far between the two.

Democrats could lose as many as 40 seats in the House this fall, but Woolsey’s seat is not expected to be one of them, given the heavy Democratic leanings of this area. Nonetheless, expect Judd to tap into the strong anti-incumbent sentiment across the nation right now.

In a Guest Opinion piece that was  just posted on pressdemocrat.com, Judd says he’s running for the 6th Congressional District “because the professional politicians in our nation’s Capitol” haven’t committed to control spending and confront “the sluggishness in commerce.”

“They are out of control, and it’s no wonder that only 11 percent of us approve of Congress, according to a recent Gallup poll,” he writes. “Lynn Woolsey is part of this dysfunctional Congress.”
